Music is unique. You will never replicate the same sound twice. Music is so deep it is named after the tryst within us: ‘Soul’.
We attempt to trap its essence with beats and melodies and in recordings, but we never truly capture its magic. Like a photograph, they say the eyes are the windows to the Soul. Then the ears are the shafts to the Soul. That is the best analogy I can give you to a recording. In a photograph you don’t hear the personality, on a recording you don’t see the nuances.
Music is my universe, my country my medicine. Music is a woman, as free willed, to caress to make love with. Music is slavery, war, freedom and spirituality. It is hope for those who will never belong. Music is change, like a river that is constantly running. It is bitter, it is a sweet science, math, English, history. Music is the backdrop and soundtrack to all of our lives. It penetrates to the marrow. Sound has been with us since the beginning of time, to whistle on the way to the mine, to sing on the chain gang, even in the shower we find a voice we never knew we had. Most people have a tune in there head and it can’t be stopped, at a traffic light, enjoying a meal, singing children to sleep. They say one song is a thousand prayers. Music takes us to a place where words tag along. Whispers of secrets that make us sleep to wake. It is mind and time travel, frequencies of sentiment, frustration, and release. Music is an St Bernard dog on the snowy Alps, The bell ringing at the end of a hard day, and a hug in desperate times, holding up a trophy after years of dedication to your art. Music is played from mansion to shanty, spaceship to submarine. Music is my meditation,my training partner, and a reminder that the pen is mightier than the sword.
I have loved music with a passion from a child to a man. It put's a smile on my heart and keeps me forever young. This summer in Paris I watched a skittle band busk, In Spain a classical youth orchestra perform a free concert, and i watched Drake perform 'Started from the bottom' in the US. I enjoyed all as much as the other. Music never ceases to amaze me. It is nature's way of telling me she loves me. A song on the wind, birds, raindrops, a wolfs howl, dolphins, cats purring, a river flowing, laughter & Tears. Music is everywhere. It is in the beat writers poems, and it is my nourishment. There was music playing before i was born, from the womb, when i was born. There is music playing while i have lived, and there will be music playing long after i am dead. Who knows by the time the heavens open, if God takes a shine to me, i may write the overture, to the opening of the clouds scene. I know a great horn section & harp player. Not one day passes without millions of songs being played around the world. It is such a fever pitch they say, "If you where on a desert island what record would you take with you" Not would you like food and water. As many known planets, there are known musical genres. Music is up there for me with my family and my spirituality.
